The Dominican Government is advancing in the implementation of the Budget Support program for the Transition towards a Greener and Inclusive Economy (Protevi), which has an investment of 13 million euros from the European Union and which seeks the development of public policies for micros, small and medium-sized businesses to achieve the goals of the National Multiannual Public Sector Plan (PNPSP).
Protevi especially promotes the participation of women and youth MSMEs. The progress made is in terms of assistance to MSMEs for their business development, specialized technical assistance for export, the design and development of a new portal to speed up the incorporation of companies, the increase in credits to MSMEs around the country and the increase in green public procurement processes for MSMEs.
There is also progress in the integration of local governments in the public contracting system, in the implementation of the registry of cleaner production practices and the increase in institutional performance evaluation indicators for participating institutions, among other indicators. .
The Dominican Government and the Delegation of the European Union in the country evaluated in a meeting the progress of this program and the so-called Coordination in the Prevention of Gender Violence in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) a (C-PREV ), which has support of five million euros.
Protevi began its implementation in 2024 under the coordination of the Ministry of Economy and with the participation of seven other State institutions.
The Vice Minister of Analysis, Economic and Social of the Ministry of Economy, Alexis Cruz, highlighted that the Protevi program plays a fundamental role in strengthening the MSME sector, which is a key pillar for economic growth and job creation in the country.
While the ambassador of the European Union in the Dominican Republic, Katja Afheldt, pointed out that the Protevi and C-PREV programs together represent an amount of 18 million euros and congratulated the actors involved in the programs for the achievements achieved.
“From the European Union we are committed to continuing to support the Dominican Republic in its development towards a greener and more sustainable economy and a society in which living without violence is possible,” he said.
Likewise, the general director of Public Procurement, Carlos Pimentel, expressed that “the Protevi program constitutes a strategic opportunity to enhance the impact of green public procurement policies, integrating MSMEs as key actors in sustainable development. “We are advancing in the implementation of more transparent, inclusive and sustainability-focused processes, in accordance with our mission of transforming public procurement into an engine of economic growth and social equity.”
