The Federal Public Defender’s Office (DPU) sent this Friday (31) to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) a request to reject the complaint presented by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) against deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) in the investigation into the pricing of the United States against Brazil.
The statement was sent to the Court after Minister Alexandre de Moraes determined that the defender’s office takes on the deputy’s defenseo, who is in the United States, and has not hired a lawyer to defend himself against the accusations.
For the DPU, the accusation against Eduardo is based on public demonstrations and constitutes a “legitimate exercise of freedom of expression and the parliamentary mandate”.
“The economic sanctions mentioned in the complaint were applied by the United States government, not by the accused. Acts of a foreign government are an expression of national sovereignty and do not result from the determination of a Brazilian parliamentarian”, argued the defense.
The deputy is accused of promoting trade sanctions by President Donald Trump’s government against Brazilian exports, the application of the Magnisky Law and the suspension of visas of STF ministers and members of the federal government.
Eduardo left Brazil in February this year and requested leave from his 120-day mandate, which ended on July 20th. By not attending the Chamber sessions, the deputy may be impeached for absences.
