Downpours flood streets of the capital; 24 provinces on alert due to trough

Santo Domingo.- 24 provinces plus the National District are under alert, nine of them in yellow, due to the downpours that have been recorded in recent hours in the National District and other demarcations.

The rainfall flooded streets and avenues in the National District and the Santo Domingo province, causing problems in vehicular traffic.

In addition, flooding was reported in several towns, due to flooding of rivers and streams.

He Emergency Operations Center (EOC) reported that rainfall will continue, due to the presence of a trough and a tropical disturbance located southeast of Puerto Rico.

Under this forecast, the COE reported that it maintains a “yellow alert” for the provinces of Puerto Plata, Espaillat, Hermanas Mirabal, María Trinidad Sánchez, Samaná, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, La Altagracia and Duarte.

Another 14 provinces, plus the National District, appear in green, according to the report from the COE and the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet).

The downpours will increase this Friday over towns such as San José de Ocoa, San Cristóbal, Santiago de los Caballeros, Monte Plata, Elías Piña, Pedernales, Monseñor Nouel and Santiago Rodríguez.
