Santo Domingo.- The downpours that have been recorded since the early hours of Saturday night have caused flooding in streets and avenues of the capital and the province of Santo Domingo, which made traffic difficult on Sunday morning.
The rainfall is caused by a trough and a tropical wave, which is why 23 provinces, including the National District, remain under alert.
The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported this Sunday morning that nine demarcations appear in yellow and 14 in green.
In yellow are Monte Plata, Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Peravia, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, La Altagracia, San José de Ocoa, plus the National District.
They remain on “green alert”: Monseñor Nouel, Independencia, Puerto Plata, Santiago Rodríguez, Azua, Duarte, Bahoruco, Santiago, Barahona, Valverde, Montecristi, Dajabón, San Juan and Pedernales.
The alert level was issued due to the saturation of the subsoil, as a consequence of the rainfall caused by Hurricane Melissa on Dominican territory.
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that the tropical wave will continue this Sunday over the Dominican Republic.
