Hernández, 79, had been facing serious health problems in recent months. His condition deteriorated after a complex liver surgery, which led him to remain in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Piedecuesta, Santander. Hours after the political leader’s passing, the family faced another painful loss: the death of his faithful pet, a dog named Narco Jose. The canine, who had been by Hernandez’s side for 14 years, died naturally, sadly coinciding with the death of his owner.
Narco José was not only a loyal companion for Hernández, but also had his moment of fame by starring in several commercial videos alongside the engineer. According to relatives, the bond between Hernández and his dog was deep and special. “They were very connected,” they said, highlighting that Narco José had not seen his owner for more than two months due to his hospitalization.
