The governor of São Paulo, João Doria, announced this afternoon (31) that he will leave office to run for president in the October elections by the PSDB. The announcement was made at a press conference held during the State Congress of Municipalities, which took place at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, seat of the São Paulo government.
Under the Ineligibility Law of 1990, public office holders who intend to contest a vacancy in this year’s elections for a position other than the one they hold must leave their position up to six months before the first round. Therefore, the rule does not apply to candidates seeking re-election. This year, the deadline to leave the post ends Saturday (2).
“I want to be with you from the 2nd to show that it is possible to have a new alternative for Brazil, an alternative of peace, work, dedication, humility and integration of the whole of Brazil. I will do it with determination, far from ideology and far from populism and condemning corruption and mistreatment of public money”, said João Doria in the speech, which lasted about 40 minutes.
The event was attended by more than a thousand people and was attended by the first lady Bia Doria, the vice-governor of São Paulo, Rodrigo Garcia, who now assumes the government of São Paulo and is a PSDB pre-candidate for the next government elections. of São Paulo, the mayor of São Paulo Ricardo Nunes, the national president of the PSDB, Bruno Araújo, and mayors of the interior of São Paulo, among other authorities.
