‘Don’t look up’, Netflix’s big bet for this Christmas

Netflix decided to bet this Christmas on a movie that promises to be a hit on the platform. ‘Don’t Look Up’ is the new work by Adam McKay, who this time was launched by a mix between comedy and drama.

The film is led by the three Oscar winners, Leonardo Di Caprio, Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep. In addition, the cast It features celebrities such as Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Rob Morgan, Mark Rylance, Kid Cudi, and Matthew Perry.

The premise of the film is that of an asteroid that is on its way to collide with Earth and nobody pays attention. Although it seems like a rather cliché libretto, the closeness it has with the satire and acid comedy impregnated by the director, Adam McKay, promises to give a more than interesting turning point to the production.

Kate, is a graduate student and Randall, her professor, are two mediocre astronomers who realize that the end of the world is near if the meteorite hits the planet. The problem? After a media tour, they fail to make the presenters of the most watched newscast in the country, celebrities, much less the president of the United States, pay attention to them and to avoid tragedy.

One of the highlights of the film is the improvised scene that lasted almost 16 minutes and took two days to shoot. Director Adam Mckay, who is known for giving actors freedom in his productions, shared details of this curious scene.

“We shot that scene over two days and the first cut was 16 minutes long and I would never tire of watching it. The problem was, you can’t make a movie start with a 16 minute long scene where basically nothing happens. Hank Corwin is one of the great film editors and he turned it into a Fred Astaire dance piece. I showed the team the first cut, those 16 minutes of the best actors in the industry, edited by one of the great editors, and all they felt like they could have watched it for another five minutes, but we had to cut it down for the final cut. “

Although this film will be released in a limited way on December 10 in some theaters in the United States, the general public will have to wait until December 24 to enjoy this production on the renowned platform.
