SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS.– The deputy director of the National Health Insurance (Senasa) in this province, Hipólito Medina, “Morocho,” recounted how he was physically attacked and threatened with death by a man after an incident that occurred last Friday, November 29.
«Friday, November 29, as always, my culture of service, human quality, social conscience… I’m leaving in my vehicle to give a lecture on social security. 1.5 kilometers from arriving at the UASD, I lightly, unimportantly, touched the corner of the mirror of a Land Cruiser; “I didn’t even feel it.”
The doctor continues his story saying that four traffic lights later I saw that they were following me.
The aggressor identified as Marvel Florentinosupposedly the husband of the jurisdiction’s Gender Violence Coordinating Prosecutor, Andrea Jabalera, reacted violently even though Medina immediately apologized for the collision, he told me: “I’m going to kill you.”
However, the other driver followed him to the university facilities, where the attack broke out:

«The person follows me to the UASD with the gun in his hand. I apologized immediately, but then he hit me in the head. He told me, ‘I’m going to kill you,’ while people yelled at him not to do it.”
Medina explained that he only managed to stop the beating when he pleaded with the aggressor:
«I’m a doctor, don’t kill me. “I have children and a family.”
Fear for your life
The doctor denounced that Florentino has not been arrested, and that his wife, prosecutor Andrea Jabalera, is allegedly interfering in the case to protect him.
“The attacker is loose and they let him go with his gun. “We do not know the origin of that weapon, and neither the provincial prosecutor nor the prosecutor’s assistant have demanded it.”
Morocho stated that he fears for his life and has remained confined to his home since the incident. In addition, he reported that this Wednesday he has scheduled a meeting with Deputy Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso, head of the General Directorate of Prosecution of the Public Ministry, to explain his situation and seek justice.
Ask for justice
The attack on Dr. Hipólito Medina has generated concern in the community of San Pedro de Macorís, and several sectors demand that the case be investigated with transparency, despite the aggressor’s links with the Public Ministry.
The episode calls into question the impartiality of justice in cases where relatives of high-ranking officials are involved, and leaves on the table the question: to what extent can influence be a shield against the law?
