LIMA, Peru – The president of the United States, Donald Trump, affirmed that he was starting talks with Cuba, a fact that comes shortly after his administration announced tariffs on countries that sell oil to the Castro regime, as part of the national emergency declared against Havana.
“We are starting to talk with Cuba. They need help for humanitarian reasons,” commented the president. “Many people who live in our country have been treated very badly by Cuba. They all voted for me and we want them to be treated well. We would like them to be able to return to their homes in their country. They have not seen their families in many decades. I will be able to solve it.”
Asked if his policy could cause a humanitarian crisis on the island, Trump clarified that it would not have to come to that, since the regime would have to seek out the United States and “make a deal.”
