Doña Rosa Gómez de Mejía; 58 years of marriage union

Santo Domingo – Passed away at the age of 82, from a heart attack Mrs Rosa Gomezwife of former President Hipólito Mejía.

Rosa Gómez de Mejía was born in Gurabo, a small town in Santiago de los 30 Caballeros. On July 4, 1940, she married Rafael Hipolito Mejia Domínguez, former resident of the Dominican Republic.

Together, Doña Rosa and her husband were strong champions of the consolidation of the Dominican family and early in their marriage, both joined the Christian Family Movement, an entity dedicated to strengthening the family as the main nucleus of society.

The results obtained by working with diverse families, including her own, convinced Doña Rosa de Mejía that sowing spiritual, moral and intellectual values ​​in youth, bringing benefits to the entire society.

Hence, she has dedicated her support to the programs developed to achieve the social policy objectives of the Government of the Dominican Republic while she was first lady and even after.

Recognized for her solidarity and altruism, Mrs. de Mejía was deserving of different honors and decorations: she received the Grand Cross of the Isabel La Católica Order from His Majesty King Don Juan Carlos I of Spain, the Honoris Causa Doctorate in Humanities from the University Católica Tecnológica del Cibao (UCATECI), the Paul Harris Button, the highest award granted by the International Rotary Foundation, among other recognitions.

Former resident Mejía and Doña Rosa had four children: Ramón, Felipe, Carolina and Lissa, all university professionals and married.
