It will be a meeting that will offer new opportunities for growth and international cooperation.
From November 4 to 7 of this year, the first Dominican Week in Spain (SEDE) will be held in Madrid, a meeting that will be held every year to promote business opportunities in the Dominican Republic among Spanish businessmen and the Dominican community in Spain.
The event is organized by the Dominican Week Foundation in Spain and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic, to promote Dominican culture, identity and traditions, as well as to foster bilateral relations between the two countries.
The SEDE was born in 1992, as an initiative of doctor Luis Heredia Bonettiin a historical context in which efforts were being made to increase bilateral ties between the United States and the Dominican Republic.
Then, Dominican Week was established in the United States by the American Chamber of Commerce, explained José Maldonado, vice president of the Dominican Week Foundation in Spain.
The president of the foundation, Manuel Garcia Troncosoindicated that the SEDE underlines the commitment to strengthen bilateral relations and offer new opportunities for growth and international cooperation.
He said that it was created not only to highlight the cultural and economic influence of the Dominican Republic, but also to facilitate a space for dialogue and collaboration between the public and private sectors of both countries.
He said that during the meeting bilateral meetings will be held with authorities and businessmen from both countries, with the aim of exploring opportunities for cooperation, business and mutual development.
Maldonado said that conferences will be held, designed to promote an exchange of knowledge and experiences that will benefit both nations, on key issues such as logistics hubs, artificial intelligence, free trade agreements and investments.
Representatives of the country’s main banks, the insurance and shipping sectors, among others, as well as the Minister of Industry, Commerce and SMEs, will participate in SEDE. Victor Bisonowho will attend one of the conferences as a guest speaker.
The activities of the SEDE will take place at the Meliá Fénix Hotel, starting on Monday, November 4, with a meeting with the Spanish press, a lunch with businessmen and in the evening a discussion and presentation of the book “Spain and the Dominican Republic, a shared history.”
On Tuesday the 5th, the event will begin with a floral offering in the Parque del Oeste, in the Casa de Campo neighborhood, where there is a bust of Juan Pablo Duarte; then the Banco Sabadell of Spain will make the presentation “Investment climate and opportunities for the Spanish manufacturing industry in the free trade zone sector of the Dominican Republic.”
In the afternoon, there will be a conference entitled “Public-private collaboration for the development of the world-class logistics hub of Zaragoza/Hub RD”. In the evening, there will be a welcome cocktail, with tastings of Dominican rums and cigars.
On Wednesday the 6th, the Mapfre Foundation will offer the conference “Economic Perspectives in the Dominican Republic” and a panel on the topic “Business Vision and Investment Opportunities in the Dominican Republic”. Also, in the afternoon, the conference “Impact of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) for the Dominican Republic and its benefits for Spanish companies.
On Thursday the 7th, a conference and panel on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity will be held, moderated by Mastercard. At the closing event, awards will be given to prominent figures of the Dominican diaspora in various sectors.
