Guatemala City.- Dominican Defense Minister Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa and three other officers of the Dominican Armed Forces were stranded at the airport in the capital of Guatemala after Copa Airlines allegedly oversold the flight that would allow them to return to Santo Domingo this Friday.
A source said that Díaz Morfa was willing to travel to the Dominican Republic through Guatemala’s “La Aurora” International Airport, after participating in the meeting of defense ministers of the Superior Council of the Conference of Central American Armed Forces (CFAC), which took place in the municipality of Iztapa.
The flight was scheduled to take place from Guatemala’s La Aurora Airport, operated by Copa Airlines, but they were stranded at the airport when the flight that would allow them to return to Santo Domingo was oversold.
According to the source, when Minister Díaz Morfa and his companions arrived at the appointed time and place to board the flight from Guatemala to Santo Domingo with a stopover in Panama, after having been assigned and pre-checked seats, three of the Army officers were unable to board the plane because their seats were occupied by other passengers.
Given the unavoidable commitments of the Dominican Minister of Defense this weekend, he was forced to take another flight accompanied by only one of his companions, finding himself in the uncomfortable situation of leaving his entourage behind, due to the alleged irresponsibility of the airline.
At this time, the inconveniences caused by this have not been compensated, and the officers remain in Guatemala awaiting Copa Airlines to find a solution to the matter.
