Santo Domingo.– He Ministry of the Interior and Police reported that the Dominican Republic was chosen to exercise the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Latin American Committee on Internal Security (CLASI)corresponding to the period 2026–2027.
The designation represents a diplomatic and strategic achievement for the country and for the entire Latin American region, by recognizing the institutional and technical capacity of the Caribbean nation to lead the regional cooperation on internal security and justice issues.
According to the statement, this choice reflects the trust of the European Union in the work that the Dominican Republic has developed in matters of institutional modernization, strengthening democratic governance and fight against organized crime.
He CLASSan initiative supported by the program THE PACT of the European Unionbrings together Latin American countries committed to coordination of security, justice and crime prevention policies.

Dominican leadership will be executed through the Vice Ministry of Internal Securitywho will assume representation before the committee and will be in charge of coordination of inter-institutional policiesthe link with international organizations and the definition of strategic lines for the region.
The Ministry highlighted that this role will involve promoting multilateral alliancesintegrate institutional efforts and apply security models based on evidence, innovation and operational efficiencywith focus on human rights.
From the Pro Tempore Presidencythe Dominican Republic will promote a regional agenda aimed at technical cooperationthe specialized training of security personnel and the police agency interoperability.
Likewise, it will promote joint actions to prevent and combat transnational crimesamong them the human traffickinghe drug traffickingthe cybercrimes and the illicit arms trafficking.
The country will also work on creation of regional standards of good practiceshe institutional strengthening and the development of shared information systems that allow taking decisions based on analysis and verifiable results.
