The Dominican Republic received today its 11 millionth visitor, Mr. Bruce Pirt, coming from Ottawa, Canada on Air Transat airline flight 830 at 11:30 am, at the Punta Cana International Airport.
Pirt traveled with his wife Kathryn Jennifer Curtis and daughters Melissa Jane and Anna Wyn. And he commented that he has visited the country at least eight times and the first time was 20 years ago for his honeymoon. Pirt said he is now returning to the country to celebrate his wedding anniversary.
He highlighted that he likes to visit the Dominican Republic because of its warm climate and the love he receives from the Dominicans.
Pirt was received by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado and businessman Frank Rainieri, along with other personalities from the tourism sector. As well as, a celebration to the rhythm of merengue and with the folkloric ballet dance of the Ministry of Tourism.
Collado explained that Canada is the second country of origin for tourists in the Dominican Republic and flights from this country have increased by 25% in this high season of the year.
He indicated that in this winter season the hotels are at 95% capacity and that is why more rooms need to be built.
He considered that this has been a spectacular year for the Dominican Government and the goal of 2025 is to reach the figure of 12 million visitors.
The founder of Grupo Puntacana, Frank Rainieri, highlighted that Pirt is the five millionth passenger this year for the airport and gave away a free week of accommodation for him and his family at The Westin Puntacana & Resorts hotel on his next visit to the country.
