Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Government called on the Haitian political leadership to maintain the institutional cohesion and support the prime minister Alix Didier Fils-Aiméat a time that he considers particularly delicate for the neighboring country.
In a statement, the authorities indicated that the international community, committed to the stabilization of Haiti, requires “clear signs of consensus and responsibility” by its leaders. Furthermore, they highlighted that the Haitian population expects a capable government of take care of your basic needs and to lead the country towards institutional normality.
The Dominican Government reported that in the coming months the Gang Suppression Force (GSF)as part of a multilateral effort to support the stabilization of Haiti, the holding of elections and institutional strengthening. The main objective of this deployment is end violence by criminal gangs that control large areas of Haitian territory.
“The Dominican Government recognizes the initial progress registered in security matters by the task force established by the Prime Minister Fils-Aiméand reiterates that any step that contributes to reestablishing the authority of the Haitian state is essential to the success of ongoing efforts,” he stressed.
Commitment to the international community
The Dominican Republic also reaffirmed its commitment to the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council on support for security in Haiti, particularly Resolution 2793which establishes the GSF and the new United Nations Support Office.
The country insisted that the deployment and operation of these mechanisms must move forward urgently and have the necessary resources to face the crisis.
The Dominican Government concluded by reiterating its willingness to support all efforts that contribute to restoring stability and institutional authority in Haiti, insisting on international cooperation as an essential way to achieve sustainable results.
