Dominican Republic tightens requirements for the entry of Cubans

Santo Domingo, (EFE).- The Dominican Republic announced on Monday new requirements for Cubans arriving in transit to the country, due to an increase in travelers of that nationality.

The General Directorate of Migration reported that as of April 30, Cubans in transit must have a residence, citizenship or a multiple visa from the United States, Canada, Great Britain, the Member States of the Schengen area or the Republic itself. Dominican.

“This measure is taken due to the increase in cases of passengers of Cuban nationality not admitted, which generates inconveniences at the country’s immigration control posts,” the institution explained in a statement.

After analyzing and consulting with the relevant agencies “it is understood that it is necessary to implement more practical and effective immigration controls in relation to foreigners of Cuban nationality who travel to the Dominican Republic to another destination,” concluded the note from the Directorate of Migration.

This measure follows a resolution adopted at the end of March by Immigration, which established that, to enter the country, Cubans will need a visa from the Dominican Republic or from the United States, Canada, Great Britain or the Member States of the Schengen area.
