Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Panama They will collaborate to seek financing in international markets, the Costa Rican foreign minister told Efe this Saturday, Rodolfo Solanoat the end of a visit to Santo Domingo.
This collaboration will be the central issue that will be discussed at the meeting held by the presidents of Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader; from PanamaLaurentino Cortizo, and Costa RicaCarlos Alvarado, on March 21 in San José, within the framework of the tripartite alliance launched last year by these countries.
The Costa Rican foreign minister pointed out that the pandemic placed middle-income countries “in a trap” that prevents them from accessing financial resources in the markets because “they do not qualify for the standards of international financial organizations.”
Solano stressed that they are not asking for “donations”, but rather access to long-term financing at reasonable interest rates.
“If we don’t work financing mechanisms, countries like ours will hardly be able to achieve the sustainable development goals and consequently this will have an impact on future generations. We are facing the great risk of having a lost generation”Costa Rican foreign minister
At the meeting of Costa Rica A business council will also be created, in which businessmen from the three countries will participate, with the purpose of promoting public-private alliances.
“For the alliance to be sustainable, the pillar of the private sector is fundamental. Here it is the private sector that has to create jobs. The public sector cannot create jobs and public-private partnerships are the smart highway to achieve our needs.” of infrastructure and others,” he said.
The presidents of Panama, Costa Rica and Dominican Republic they agreed to create the tripartite alliance last September, at a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The first two meetings of the alliance were held in October in Panama and in December in Puerto Plata, north of the Dominican Republic, and the third date will take place in March in San José.
