HOLY SUNDAY.– The Dominican ambassador to Turkey, Elvis Alam Lora, celebrated with the academic community of Istanbul the 74th anniversary of diplomatic relations between that nation and the Dominican Republic at the event “Historical, cultural and literary bridges.”
The activity, organized in collaboration with the Department of Interpretation and Translation of the prestigious Marmara State University, featured a memorable program and a vibrant audience of students and professors who highlighted the historical and cultural wealth shared by two nations united by paths. ancestral
According to a press release, “Lebanese-Ottoman Emigration to the Dominican Republic during the late 19th century and early 20th century” was the title of the masterful conference given by Ambassador Elvis Alam, the central axis of the meeting that included the participation of 300 students.
Elvis Alam, a frequent researcher of these topics, presented to the audience the political, social and economic context in which families from that part of the world decided to emigrate to the Dominican Republic, as well as the impact that their contributions have had to date on the formation of the economic, social, cultural and human fabric of the Dominican Republic.
As a substantive contribution and preamble to the conference, one of Mármara’s students presented a study on Ottoman emigration to Latin America, with touches on the Dominican Republic.
Likewise, professor and doctor Sueda Özbent, head of the Department of Translation and Interpretation, offered a speech in which she highlighted the importance of these initiatives to strengthen academic and cultural links between countries, as well as the role of international cooperation in the consolidation of them.
As part of the programming, students and teachers dramatized in Spanish and Turkish the poems “Los Inmigrantes”, by Norberto James Rowlings, and “Canto al Lebanon y los Lebanese”, by José Rafael Abinader, father of the president of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader. Crown.
Those present at the event, held on December 4, described the scene as moving, evidence of the sensitivity that the young people of Türkiye can have in the face of the most critical conditions of the human condition.
The activity culminated with a cocktail of shared flavors, to the beat of native musical rhythms of the Caribbean country and a close dialogue between different generations about the gastronomy, art, literature and idiosyncrasies of the Dominican Republic.
