Santo Domingo;- The Dominican Republic and the United States agreed to strengthen ties of cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, money laundering and transnational organized crime, the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) reported on Saturday.
This was determined during a meeting between the president of the DNCD, Vice Admiral José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa; and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Office of Drug Enforcement and Law Enforcement Affairs of the United States, Christopher Landberg, who was part of the delegation that accompanied the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, on his visit to the country yesterday.
At the meeting, according to a statement, “it was agreed to continue strengthening the ties of cooperation between the Dominican Republic and the United States, in the fight and persecution against drug trafficking, money laundering, transnational organized crime, among other crimes.”
The U.S. official “recognized the leadership of the Dominican Republic in the fight against transnational crime and drug trafficking, as expressed during his visit to the country by the Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken,” the note added.
Landberg’s words
“We are committed to continuing to support the Dominican Republic in its efforts to continue combating drug trafficking and related crimes; we recognize the hard work they are doing to dismantle these criminal structures,” Landberg said.
For his part, Cabrera Ulloa, on behalf of the Dominican Government, expressed his satisfaction with the support that the DNCD has received over the past four years from the Office of Anti-Narcotics Affairs and Law Enforcement.
“We are very proud and grateful for INL’s support. It has been a very significant contribution, which commits us to continue working together against this scourge, which causes so much harm to humanity,” he added.
The meeting, held at the DNCD headquarters, was attended by: magistrate Yeni Berenice Reynoso, head of the General Prosecution Directorate of the Public Prosecutor’s Office; and Rebeca Márquez, director of the Anti-Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Section (INL) in the Dominican Republic.
