Riyadh.- The ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Andy Rodríguez Durán, met last week with the secretary general of the Digital Cooperation OrganizationDeemah AlYahya, who discussed the alignment among the objectives of the country and of that institution, particularly in digital innovation.
He diplomatic He stated that they held a constructive dialogue to explore areas of cooperation such as supporting digital transformation and sustainable economic growth in the Dominican Republic.
AlYahya said that the Dominican Digital Agenda and the commitment to boost its digital economy through technological development and entrepreneurship are in line with the objectives of that organization to promote a globally integrated economy, and extended the invitation for the country to become a member of that international entity.
Rodríguez Durán recalled that on August 26, 2021, President Luis Abinader presented the Dominican Republic’s Digital Agenda 2030 in order to continue the digital transformation and social and economic development at the national level.
“With it, we have the roadmap to accelerate the economic and social recovery after this pandemic that affects us. It contains seven axes of action, 24 specific objectives, 116 lines of action and more than 100 projects,” said President Abinader during the ceremony at the National Palace.
The digital economy refers to the use of information technologies in the production processes of goods and services, as well as in their marketing and consumption.
The Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), founded in November 2020 and based in the Saudi capital Riyadh, is the first independent international entity focused on the digital economy.
It is made up of governments from 16 countries: Bahrain, Bangladesh, Cyprus, Djibouti, Gambia, Ghana, Greece, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Rwanda and Saudi Arabia, representing around 3.5 trillion dollars in GDP and a market of almost 800 million people, more than 70% of whom are under 35 years old; and also has 39 observer institutions and companies.
Digital Agenda 2030 of the Dominican Republic
The seven axes outlined in the Dominican Republic’s Digital Agenda 2030 are: governance and regulatory framework; connectivity and access; digital government; education and digital skills; digital economy; cybersecurity and culture of innovation.
Its objectives are to provide an enabling regulatory and institutional environment that promotes an open, inclusive, participatory and rights-based digital society.
