Mexico City, Aug 25 (EFE).- Dominican Radhamés Liz pitched seven innings of two-hit ball to lead the Guerreros de Oaxaca 9-4 victory over the Diablos Rojos del México on Sunday, giving them a 2-0 lead in the final of the Southern Zone of the Mexican Baseball League.
Liz, a 40-year-old veteran with four seasons of experience in the Major Leagues, had a scoreless game until the fifth inning, until in the bottom of the sixth inning Venezuelan Franklin Barreto hit a solo home run to left field, with which Mexico reduced the score to 4-1.
In her seven innings, Liz allowed two hits, gave up one run, issued two walks, struck out six and earned her third win in the postseason.
The Warriors opened the scoring with a four-run homer by Ricardo Valenzuela in the top of the second inning, driving in Americans Kyle Martin, Roberto Ramos and Jorge Flores to the plate, making it 4-0 in favor of Oaxaca.
After Barreto hit his home run, Venezuelan Alexi Amarista hit a single to right field, with which Dominican Luis Barrera converted the score to 5-1.
Barrera hit a single to left, which brought Jorge Flores to the plate, for the 6-1, in the eighth, after which Venezuelan Juniel Querecuto hit a fly ball to center, with which Valenzuela scored the 7-1.
The scarlet team put pressure on Oaxaca in the bottom of the eighth, with a single by Dominican Robinson Canó, which sent Moisés Gutiérrez and Barreto home, for the 7-3, and immediately Venezuelan José Pirela hit a grounder to first base for Canó to make it 7-4.
Puerto Ricans Yariel González and Ramos returned the calm to Oaxaca with a pair of solo home runs, which meant the final score was 9-4.
These teams will travel to Oaxaca and resume the series on Tuesday. The other final, the Northern Final, will return to action on Monday when the Sultanes de Monterrey, with a 2-0 lead, visit the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos.
Both series will end when one of the two teams has four wins and qualifies for the tournament final. EFE
