SANTO DOMINGO.- The Agricultural and Commercial Attaché of the Dominican Republic in Haiti, Carlos Guillén Tatis, has been missing in that country since yesterday when he was supposedly on his way to this side of the border. He is feared he may have been kidnapped by one of the gangs that control part of Haitian territory.
One of his sons, a resident of the United States, confirmed the information to El Día after expressing concern about having lost telephone contact with him.
«Daddy does not appear, they just called me. He left yesterday before noon for Santo Domingo, but according to what they say he did not cross the border. He does not answer any of the cell phones, he was reported missing by the Haitian Police,” David Guillen told this newspaper via WhatsApp.
Among family and friends, the diplomat is known as Carlitin. He is an agricultural engineer and was appointed by President Luis Abinader.

A diplomatic source told El Día that they were following up on the information, but out of prudence they could not offer any details at the moment.
Guillén Tatis would have left Peiton Ville for Santo Domingo, taking advantage of the long weekend (Monday is non-working in the DR) and also because of the insecurity situation in Haiti, but he would have been kidnapped before crossing the border with another person who was allegedly released by his captors.
So far neither the Haitian nor the Dominican government have reported on the alleged kidnapping.
