Dominican delegation in Japan promotes innovation and agricultural transformation

Delegación Dominicana en Japón impulsa innovación y transformación agrícola

An official delegation of the Dominican Republic, Headed by the Minister of Agriculture, Limbert Cruz, made a strategic visit to Japan with the support of the International Cooperation Agency of Japan (JICA), within the framework of the Agricultural Financing Project for the strengthening of the food value chain.

The mission was made up of Fernando Durán, administrator of the Agricultural Bank; Edwin Reyes, rector of Isa University; José Paulino, Deputy Minister of Planning of the Ministry of Agriculture; Cindy Cristóbal, Vice Chancellor for Development and Institutional Linking of the Isa University; Hipólito Bazil, Planning Director of the Agricultural Bank; and Many Sánchez, manager of the Bank of the Agricultural Bank.

The delegation was accompanied by representatives of the Jica, both from Japan and the office in the Dominican Republic, headed by its resident representative, Kota Sakaguchi.

During the visit, key opportunities were identified in advanced mechanization, agricultural automation, scientific cooperation and strengthening value chains, with emphasis on rice, coffee, dairy and vegetable sectors. The potential to position Dominican products of high added value in demanding international markets was also highlighted.

The project, equivalent to 70 million dollars, is channeled through the Agricultural Bank to benefit producers, cooperatives and MSMEs, through financing, technical assistance and training. With this initiative, the Dominican Republic reaffirms its commitment to boost an agri -food model based on innovation, sustainability and global competitiveness.
