Dominican Constitution Day is celebrated with new Magna Carta

This Wednesday, November 6, the streets of San Cristóbal once again commemorate the Day of the Constitution Dominicanin a context in which the Magna Carta celebrates its 180th anniversary, after the promulgation of a recent reform.

The celebration began around 10:25 in the morning with the solemn audience of the Court Constitutional (TC), which had the participation of President Luis Abinader. This meeting has the objective of highlighting the importance of Constitution and respect for the rule of law in the country.

The magistrates that make up the plenary session of the high court addressed the citizens on issues related to the rights fundamental.

At this moment, the leader heads the parade civil-military, which has the presence of the main Government officials and special guests.

The enthusiasm is perceived among the hundreds of sancristobalenses who gather to enjoy the spectacle, which includes the march of the representatives of the military bodies of the nation.

After the event, the leader will move to the main auditorium of the Loyola Institute to preside over the Advice of Central Cabinet Ministers, which is expected to last at least two hours.

Inauguration of works

Once the protocol acts of the Constitution Daythe ruler will exhaust an extensive agenda of inaugurating works in various locations in San Cristóbal.

At 2:30 in the afternoon, Abinader will inaugurate a children’s room and a roof at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).

Likewise, the head of state will inaugurate the roofing of the School Pablo Barinas, in the sector Lavapiésaround 3:30 in the afternoon, and will culminate its agenda in Haina with the delivery from an experimental center of the UASD.

Recent amendments to the Constitution

In the recent reform The Magna Carta includes the unification of presidential, congressional and municipal elections; the reduction from 190 to 170 deputies; that the attorney be chosen by the National Council of the Judiciary (CNM), the integration of the president of the Constitutional Court to the CNM and the prohibition of leaders remaining in power beyond two terms.

While the modified articles are 81, 166, 167, 169, 171, 178, 179, 209, 268, 274 and 278 was created.
