Santo Domingo. – Francisco Domínguez Brito, leader of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), warned that a new division within that organization would cause significant damage and that, as a candidate for the presidency, one of his main objectives is promote unity and reconciliation among its members.
When interviewed on the Casi Personal program hosted by Graymer Méndez, the former Minister of the Environment reflected on the need to heal internal wounds and strengthen cohesion in the PLD through respect for the established norms and rules.
“The PLD needs professional conflict resolution methods, that allow members to listen to and understand the positions of others, thus avoiding divisions that could affect the future of the party,” he pointed out.
Likewise, when asked about Danilo Medina’s possible reaction if he lost the internal contest to him, Domínguez Brito expressed his confidence that the former president would prioritize the well-being of the party and the country over his personal interests, thus strengthening party unity.
The leader also took advantage of the opportunity to criticize the economic and fiscal policy of the current governmentwhich, in his opinion, mainly harms the most vulnerable sectors and the middle class.
Brito assured that issues such as the allocation of 4% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to education, which at the time meant a historic achievement for the country, andbe at riskfor which he called on citizens to remain firm in the defense of that right.
Domínguez Brito called on PLD members to regain pride in the achievements made during their administrations, while urging the self-criticism and humility to recognize and correct past mistakes.
“We have to dream of a better nation and work so that the PLD once again becomes a real option for power, with new ideas and proposals,” he concluded.
The PLD chooses its president and general secretary, as well as new members for the Political Committee.
