Domingo Latorraca: ‘We have to free our educational system from the kidnapping of the unions’

Economic reactivation and job creation are two priority issues for several business sectors in the country, since the pandemic to date, since many Panamanians, due to the lack of jobs, have turned to informality.

For the former Minister of Economy and Finance, Domingo Latorraca, Panama stands out for its macroeconomic stability and its stable growth, and we are returning to the stabilized growth rate after the pandemic.

He considered it unfortunate that the productive sector, which is the one that generates most of the jobs in the country, is excluded from these discussions (single dialogue table) and only “our authorities are meeting with the most radical groups in the country, those who do not believe in democracy and decent employment, do not believe in a good education”.

To solve part of these two problems, Latorraca said that justice must be strengthened, that whoever commits an offense must pay; that there is rule of law. The other thing is that Panama still has favorable macroeconomic conditions for stability and confidence in the country.

“Panama has to make some changes in matters of justice, education, we have to free our educational system from the kidnapping of unions that, in the end, are not interested in change. All the efforts made by the Meduca authorities to make changes are restricted by these unions,” he pointed out.
