Conmebol will distribute more than 244 million dollars among its associates in 2022, 15 million more than this year, its president, Alejandro Domínguez, announced yesterday, prior to the draw for the first phase of the Libertadores and Sudamericana cups next year.
“The global amount will increase by 15,100,000 dollars, going from 229,260,000 distributed in 2021 to 244,360,000 in 2022,” Domínguez revealed during a virtual broadcast of the draw for the continental club tournaments.
The 2022 Copa Libertadores champion will receive $ 16,000,000, an increase of $ 1 million over what Palmeiras won for winning the title in 2021.
This figure is added to what the winning team accumulates by passing the different stages of the competition, a total figure that reaches 25,050,000 dollars.
On the other hand, there will also be improvements in the amounts granted in the first phase (set at 400,000 dollars), second phase (500,000) and in the third phase (600,000) of the Libertadores.
The three-time champion Olimpia de Paraguay will debut in said first phase against the Peruvian César Vallejo in the first week of February as a visitor, according to the draw carried out yesterday.
The popular team from Asunción, which won the tournament in 1979, 1990 and 2002, is the most successful team of those who start their journey in the Libertadores from the first phase and will have to draw three ties to reach the group stage.
For their part, Estudiantes de La Plata, four times monarch of the tournament (1968, 1970, 1971 and 2009) will play in the second phase against the Chilean team Audax Italiano.
The 2022 Copa Libertadores final will be played at the Monumental Stadium in Guayaquil, home to Barcelona of Ecuador, on October 29.
The South American Cup
President Domínguez also remarked that the 2022 South American Cup champion will receive 5,000,000 dollars, one million more in relation to the prize won by the winner of the 2021 edition, Athlético Paranaense.
The cross between Independiente Medellín and América de Cali appears as the most attractive of the first phase of the 2022 South American Cup, whose final will be played at the National Mané Garrincha stadium, in Brasilia, on October 1.
In the first phase, teams from the same country from Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela face each other.
Two teams from each of these countries will go to the group stage, which will be joined by the six representatives of Brazil and Argentina and the four that are eliminated in the third preliminary phase of the Copa Libertadores de América.
