On a day of relief in the international and domestic market, the dollar approached R$6 and reached its lowest value in more than a month. The stock market rose almost 3% and recorded the biggest daily increase since May 2023.
The commercial dollar closed this Wednesday (15) sold at R$ 6.024, with a decrease of R$ 0.022 (-0.36%). The price opened close to stability, but began to plummet after consumer inflation data in the United States was well received by the market.
The US currency is at its lowest level since December 12th. In 2025, the currency accumulates a drop of 2.49%.
The stock market had a more optimistic day. The Ibovespa index, from B3, closed at 122,650 points, up 2.81%. The indicator reached its highest level since December 17, driven mainly by bank shares.
In the domestic scenario, the disclosure that the National Treasury, Social Security and the Central Bank registered primary deficit smaller than expected in November it was well received. In the month before last, the Central Government recorded a deficit of R$4.515 billion, a drop of 88.7% compared to November 2023 and the best monthly result for November in three years.
The main factor contributing to the government’s reality came from the United States. The announcement that consumer inflation was 0.4% in December brought relief to the global market. Although the index accelerated from the 0.3% recorded in November, core inflation, which takes into account food and energy prices, fell from 0.3% in November to 0.2% last month.
The fall in core inflation increased the chances of the Federal Reserve (Fed, North American Central Bank) cutting basic interest rates in the United States later this semester. Lower interest rates in advanced economies encourage capital migration to emerging countries, such as Brazil.
