At the beginning of the day, the US dollar is set at an average of 42.90 Uruguayan pesos, marking an increase of 3.06% compared to the previous day’s figure, which was 41.63 pesos.
Regarding its weekly performance, the dollar has registered an appreciation of 2.8%, and in a broader analysis, a year-on-year increase of 9.39% is observed. Furthermore, in the last three days, the North American currency has shown positive behavior, accumulating three consecutive days of gains. Volatility this week has been noticeably higher than the past 12 months, indicating a period of instability in the market.
Economic Growth Prospects in Uruguay
The Uruguayan Government projects a return to economic growth by 2024, confident that exports of goods and services will be key drivers, after having experienced a drop in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) during the first two semesters of the year.
The price of the dollar in the first week of the year showed a positive trend, remaining stable at levels close to those recorded at the end of 2023, according to data from the Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU). Economists warn that the year 2024 could be affected by a weakness in the dollar, considering the cuts announced by the United States Federal Reserve (Fed).
