Biden already knew that I do not speak in a rush: AMLO
Multi-million dollar investments to improve border infrastructure are also mentioned. There is talk of resources that were already budgeted in the United States and of an investment from Mexico. There were no details, although a little more clarity on priority crossings is seen in a statement from the Mexican government. Given a good plan, this could be relevant.
Regarding inflation, the President of Mexico had announced, with some glee, that he would present a very important proposal. What is read in the joint declaration are simple good wishes and generalities. No solid plan or anything concrete that really helps.
On the topic of fashion, supply chains, references are made both in relation to the T-MEC and the agenda of the High-Level Economic Dialogue (DEAN). Again, nothing that allows to see a real project to develop them.
The declaration addresses the issue of clean energy, and working to improve the investment environment in this area. But the sensitive issues of decisions in Mexico that are totally holding back investment in this sector are not touched upon. The elephant in the room is avoided.
Regarding migration, the declaration refers to the agreements of the Summit of the Americas, which AMLO did not attend. Nothing concrete about the proposal that AMLO said so much that he would do for the United States to increase the number of temporary work visas. Just creating a workgroup. If something concrete were given from this group, it would be a good achievement.
Regarding security, as in any other bilateral meeting, generalities are spoken about the joint fight against organized crime, reduction of drug consumption and cooperation against fentanyl, arms and human trafficking is outlined. The usual, nothing new.
The next day, President López Obrador attended a binational business meeting, within the framework of the Dialogue between CEOs of both countries. This mechanism, called CEO Dialogue, has been in operation since 2013.
