The situation was made visible through several videos on social networks, where the health professional related the complications he faces to access the treatments he requires in a timely manner.
Who is Diego Alejandro Parra and what diseases does he suffer from?
With visible difficulties speaking, Diego Alejandro Parra explained that he was diagnosed with two orphan diseases:
- multiple sclerosis
- Stiff person syndrome
Added to these conditions are sequelae after COVID-19 and other diagnoses such as fibromyalgia, peripheral disc disease, chronic intractable pain, leukopenia and grade three squamous cell carcinoma.
According to his testimony, the pain he suffers is intense and constant, which has significantly deteriorated his quality of life.

Complaint for lack of complete delivery of medications
In his statements, Parra assured that, although some medications have been authorized, he does not receive the complete formulas.
“They authorize me the medications, but they do not give me the complete formulas. They are not managing my pain adequately,” he said.
The doctor stated that he has spent several days without being able to sleep due to the lack of painkillers and other essential drugs for his treatment, a situation that, he indicated, led him to make an extreme decision.
Euthanasia request in Colombia
Faced with the panorama that he describes as unbearable, Diego Alejandro Parra announced that he began the process to access euthanasia, a procedure that in Colombia is legal under certain medical and administrative criteria.
Euthanasia in the country can be requested when conditions related to serious and incurable diseases, intense suffering and the evaluation of a medical-scientific committee that analyzes each case individually are met.
