Doctor José Luis Borgen forced to sign a newspaper in the Police

The doctor Jose Luis Borgena specialist in general surgery, was arbitrarily captured on Saturday night, May 13, by the Daniel Ortega regime’s police, in a raid that left at least 18 opponents arrestedoriginating from various parts of the country.

Sources reported that, like all the kidnapped citizens, the doctor, a former member of the Nicaraguan Medical Unit (UNM), was taken to the Managua courts, where an “express trial” was held, accused by the Prosecutor for the crimes of impairment to national integrity and cybercrimes.

Borgen was released on the morning of Sunday the 14th, under the condition that he must present himself to sign daily, in a period of six months, at the police station in his city.

According to information obtained by the former politician Ivannia Álvarez, apparently Dr. Borgen did not understand that since yesterday, Sunday, he had to go to the police station to sign, so police officers showed up at his house to take him to meet “the requirement.” imposed by the Ortega justice system.

“The doctor was told that he had to appear as of tomorrow, so he understood that the judicial authorities were referring to today, Monday, because the release was in the early hours of Sunday morning,” said the also member of the Urnas Abiertas observatory.

Victim of constant repression

Borgen is one of the best-known faces of the Nicaraguan medical union, fired from the Antonio Lenín Fonseca Hospital for treating opponents during the 2018 sociopolitical crisis; he subsists on remittances and the support of some colleagues, he said. Since then, he has been the victim of sieges and assaults.

On July 13, 2021, the independent physician He appeared at the offices of the Public Ministry in Managua, where he was summoned for an interview after he provided medical attention to the opposition member Maria Asuncion Moreno.

Then, on July 22 of the same year, the doctor appeared at the facilities of the “Conchita Palacios” National Complex, where he was summoned to an interview before the Directorate of Sanitary Regulation for reasons not indicated in a letter.

Once there, regime officials warned him that if he continued to share information about the COVID-19 pandemic, he could be prosecuted with the Cybercrime Lawknown as the Gag Law.

Opponents with “civil death”

For Álvarez, this new action by the Ortega and Murillo dictatorship is reducing opponents to a “civil death, because most of them work and in order to comply they must ask for permission to work.”

This is the second wave of mass arrests so far in May. The first was on the third of this month, executed by the Police, where they arrested 57 opponents, among those who are, activists, former politicians, priests and journalists.

Opponents do not rule out that the wave of repression continues, because they assure that the purpose of the Ortega government is to sow terror to silence opposition voices.
