Dr. Damaris Altagracia Guzmán Fernández de Pérez died this Sunday afternoon in a car accident on the Higüey-San Rafael del Yuma highway, in the province of La Altagracia.
The accident occurred when the vehicle in which she was traveling with her husband, gynecologist Domingo Pérez Estévez de Guzmán, left the road and collided head-on with a mahogany tree.
As a result of the impact, Dr. Guzmán died on the spot, while her husband is in critical condition and is being treated at the hospital. Our Lady of Altagracia General Hospital (HGENSA) of the aforementioned province.

The local community is shocked by the loss of the doctor and the situation facing Dr. Pérez Estévez.
The doctor’s body remains in the HGENSA Hospital morgue.
