Do you want to protect yourself from inflation? UDIBonos can help you

“By investing in UDIS you will save intelligently because you protect your purchasing power, but you do not improve your standard of living,” Huerta said.

What are the UDIS?

The UDIS are units of value based on the increase in prices, that is, inflation, Huerta explained. This unit, Ruiz added, was launched by Banco de México (Banxico) in 1995 and its intention was to maintain the purchasing power of money.

He UDI value as of February 8 it was 7.70 pesos; its value has increased since its creation, agreed the experts interviewed.

The government likes controlled inflation, in the case of Mexico between 2% and 4%, which generates more profits and wealth, and thus the government can collect more taxes.

An investment in UDIBonos can be made from 100 UDIS -around 770 pesos-, and the resources are used by the federal government to develop projects, said Adolfo Ruiz from BX+.

By lending to the government, the UDIBonos are a low-risk instrument, with terms of 3, 5 and 10 years, explained Alfredo Huerta, a professor at UP.

Advantages

The UDIS, or some paper that has coverage in this unit, pay interest every semester, with a fixed interest rate.

Investments do not experience variations due to possible changes in interest rates, as long as the indicated term is respected.

By investing in this unit, you know from the beginning how much you are going to get paid.

It allows you to protect your money from inflation, that is, it allows you to maintain your lifestyle over time, particularly in periods of high inflation.
