Do the Government and Fecode rethink the health model for teachers in Colombia?

After complaints about deficiencies in care, the Government and Fecode create a table to improve the teacher health model.

The Government and Fecode agreed to cForm a high-level inter-institutional table to face the difficulties faced by the Teaching Health model, administered by the National Fund for Social Benefits of Teachers (Fomag).

The decision was made after a meeting between representatives of the Ministry of Education and union leaders, in which the main operating problems of the system were reviewed.

The agreement arises after Fecode exposed the flaws detected in the operation of Fiduprevisora ​​SAentity in charge of managing the new model.

During the meeting, The Executive Committee of the union transferred to the Government the teachers’ complaints about delays, inconsistencies and deficiencies in medical care.

The meeting was led by the Vice Ministry of Preschool, Basic and Secondary Education, together with the General Secretariat of the Ministry, who heard first-hand the concerns of the teachers and raised the need to strengthen institutional response mechanisms.

According to what was reported,Both parties agreed on the urgency of adopting joint measures that guarantee the operational and financial stability of the system.

The Ministry of Education assumed the commitment to coordinate a joint work space with the ministers of Education, Labor, Finance and Health, as well as with the representatives of Fecode.

This inter-institutional group will have the purpose of designing a roadmap that allows correcting current failures and ensuring effective and continuous care for teachers and their families.

The document that emerges from this table will serve as a basis to guide actions to improve the model, in which different public entities with administrative and financial responsibilities participate. The central objective will be to stabilize the provision of health services and strengthen the response capacity of the system at the national level.

The Ministry and Fecode agreed that Permanent communication and joint construction of solutions are essential to overcome the current crisis. Both parties stressed that the focus of the measures must prioritize the life, health and well-being of Fomag members.

Likewise, it was highlighted that the Fomag Board of Directors—made up of the ministers of Education, Labor and Finance, along with two representatives of Fecode and advice from the Ministry of Health—will continue to meet regularly.

This body is in charge of monitoring the implementation of the model and making the decisions necessary for its correct functioning.

With this new agreement, the Government and the teaching union seek to advance a joint strategy that allows the stability of the teaching health system to be recoveredimprove care for users and guarantee the continuity of medical services to the country’s educators.
