About 142,822 landline and mobile phone numbers from all over the country have already applied to be discharged from the National Do Not Call Registry until July 31 to not receive phone calls from unknown numbers where various promotions are offered from cell phones, credit cards, escort services, funeral service, among others.
According to the Communications Services Regulatory Unit (Ursec), some 95 companies consulted this registry and received 686 complaints in the first three months in practice of that option for the user.
The registration or cancellation of the National Do Not Call Registry must be carried out by the user or owner of the services through their telephone service operator.
The record was created by article 181 of the Law of Accountability 2020 and entered into force on January 1, 2022. However, the government had a period of up to 120 days to regulate it and President Luis Lacalle Pou ended up signing the decree on Friday, April 22 and began to govern from the 30 of that month.
Telephone service operators have up to five days to send registrations to Ursec. On the other hand, those who make the contacts must consult the Ursec database prior to carrying out the contact procedures, which will last 30 days from their issuance.
Enrollment in the National Do Not Call Registry is free.
How to sign up
Those interested, who are holders of a telecommunications servicethey will be able to tell your company (Antel, Claro or Movistar) the will not to be contacted. To start the process, companies will have three commercial channels: through the website of each companyso face-to-face in the places that the companies determine or by SMS 6622.
Through these contact channels, users who request it they will enter their telephone number or all those of which they are holders, to a registry that will be in the orbit of the Regulatory Unit of Communication Services (Ursec).
In the law they are exempted from that registration “calls from those who have a current contractual relationship, as long as they refer to the strict purpose of the link“, so the telephone companies will be able to contact their client to offer them a new mobile phone contract when it is about to end or commercial banks will also be able to continue sending their card promotions to their clients.
The Do Not Call record not only includes calls to cell phones or landlines, but also includes text messages (SMS) and communications through platforms such as WhatsApp or Telegramso that those who offer the services that the user does not want will not be able to communicate by those means either; emails are not included.
