Santo Domingo.- Agents from the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), the General Customs Directorate (DGA) and members of the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC), coordinated by the Public Ministrythey seized 62 packages, presumably of cocaine, at the Punta Cana International Airport, La Altagracia province.
The acting units, after receiving intelligence reports and assisted by canine units, carried out an inspection operation in one of the container depot areas of the terminal.
Using an X-ray machine, they detected distorted images inside one of the containers.
Following the established protocol, the authorities began a more rigorous verification process, managing to discover a double bottom in the floor of the container, where the 62 packages of a substance presumed to be cocaine, wrapped in adhesive tape and with different logos, were confiscated.
“The container, used for the air transport of goods, luggage and mail, would be sent to Brussels from the Punta Cana terminal,” says the statement from the anti-drug agency.
The Public Ministry and the DNCD are deepening investigations into the frustrated international drug trafficking operation, while continuing to reinforce interdiction efforts in the country’s air and port terminals.
The 62 packages of the alleged drug were sent under chain of custody to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) to determine the exact type and weight of the substance.
