Santo Domingo.– Agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), in coordination with the body specialized in Airport Security (CESAC), the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) and the Public Ministry, seized 18 hidden cocaine sheets in the same number of cardboard boxes, in an operation carried out at the International Airport of the Americas (AILA).
The drug, with an approximate weight of one kilogram per sheet, would be sent to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, according to the cargo manifesto.
The substance was detected by a canine unit during inspection work in one of the airport deposits. After receiving positive alert, and on the instructions of the acting prosecutor, a box was opened, finding inside the 18 paintings, each with a sheet of cocaine attached in the rear.
The package was sent by an individual with alleged domicile on the 36th backup street, agricultural villas sector, and would be received by a person in the town of Hudsonplein, in Rotterdam.

The authorities stressed that this case represents a new modality used by criminal networks to try to mock anti -drug controls on routes to Europe and the United States.
The Public Ministry and the DNCD have initiated the corresponding investigations, while reiterating their commitment to reinforce the capacity to respond to the constant innovations of international drug trafficking.
