The National Directorate for the Control of drugs (DNCD) reported this Monday that it seized 250 packages of cocaine and that two men were arrested in San Pedro de Macorís.
The anti-narcotics agency maintained that, together with members of the Navyaccording to intelligence reports, gave chase this Sunday to a speedboat that would have arrived in the country from South America.
After starting the maritime interdiction operation, the fishing-type vessel with its occupants was intercepted several nautical miles southwest of the coast of San Pedro de Macorís.
When boarding the boat, about 24 feet in length, 10 bags were taken, with 25 packages each, for a total of 250, several jugs of fuel, a 75 Hp outboard motor, water and energy drinks, among others. evidences.
“The packages were found hidden (camouflaged) in the banks of the boat and the detainees posed as fishermen to divert the attention of the authorities,” says a press release from the DNCD.
In the operation, which lasted more than 12 hours, two men of Dominican nationality were arrested, while the investigation is expanded to arrest other possible implicated in this international drug trafficking network.
The 250 packages were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) to determine the exact type and weight of the substance.
