Santo Domingo.– The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), together with other institutions, they arrested a American foreigner and seized 17 packages presumably of dopeas well as other evidence used for the preparation and packaging of narcotic substances, during an operation carried out in the Gregorio Luperón International Airportin the province of Puerto Plata.
According to a statement, operational teams and canine units carried out joint inspection tasks on dozens of pieces of luggage that arrived at the terminal from Newark, United Stateswhen, through one of the machines X-raythey detected suspicious images inside a suitcase.
Subsequently, on instructions from the acting prosecutor, the luggage was opened, finding 17 packages presumably of marijuana inside; 29 vapers filled with a liquid that appears to be the same substance; dozens of paper boxes and rolling bags; 20 jars of tobacco; 90 sachets of stimulants; two packages of tubes and three cell phones, among other evidence.
In the case, the authorities arrested a US citizen, who will be presented before the Permanent Attention Jurisdiction of Puerto Plata to take coercive measures in the next few hours, for alleged violation of Law 50-88 on drugs and controlled substances.
The operation was carried out by DNCD agents, in coordination with members of the Public Ministry, with the support of the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC) and inspectors from the General Directorate of Customs (DGA).

The Public Ministry and the DNCD began an investigation to determine if there are others involved in the incident, while the substance occupied was sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the corresponding analysis.
