It took Djokovic an hour and 34 minutes to seal his first win of the hard-court exercise and bring his career trophies total to 89.

Without losing his serve throughout the match and with brilliant moments in his game, Djokovic raised the abysmal difference with the Croatian in the clashes between the two. It was the twenty-first duel and the former number one in the world won for the nineteenth time.

He did not give an option in any case to Cilic, second favorite, who still does not win a title in this 2022. His last successes were last year, in Saint Petersburg and Stuttgart.

With his third trophy of the season under his arm, Djokovic now goes to the Astana tournament, in Kazakhstan, from this year on in the 500 category. He will meet there the number one in the world, the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, the Russian Daniil Medvedev and the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, among others.
