The Eagles of America of Mexican soccer announced on Wednesday the dismissal of Argentine coach Santiago Solari, due to the crisis in the results of the team, penultimate in the Clausura tournament classification.
“Club América informs that the coaching staff concludes its cycle in the men’s first team. This decision becomes effective as of today,” the team that employs Paraguayans Richard Sánchez and Bruno Valdéz reported in a statement to the media.
Solari, former coach of Real Madrid, arrived at the Águilas to lead the Clausura 2021 tournament and, although his team showed high performance in the regular season in that championship and in the Apertura 2021, in both they were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
After losing the final of the Concacaf Champions League, last October, the crisis of results increased at the start of 2022, in which the Azulcrema team adds one victory, three draws, four defeats and six points that they have in penultimate place in the Clausura.
América shows the second weakest defense and its offense is the tenth in the league, in addition to the fact that in the Azteca stadium, its home, the team adds a tie and two losses.
“Club América appreciates the professionalism and seriousness of Santiago Solari, Santiago Sánchez, Lucas Nardi and Bruno Miltan for just over a year of work in our team,” adds the note that highlights that last year the team from the capital achieved a points record, although the expected results were not achieved.
América has room to qualify for the top eight league because it is only two points away from the play-off zone, but for that I will have to put together a positive streak in the second part of the championship.
The board apologized to the fans because the team’s performance in the tournament has not represented the greatness of the institution and will soon announce the interim coach who will take charge of the group.
On the ninth day of the championship, America will visit Monterrey in three days, which has just fired coach Javier Aguirre, also due to poor results.
Solari and Aguirre, who managed Atlético de Madrid, were the coaches with the best careers on the circuit at the beginning of the year
