The Mayor’s Office of Bogotá 67 will be intervened under bridges in order to make a diagnosis to improve the structures and change the environments of these sites, which in most cases are usually perceived as unsafe or are misused to leave garbage.
This strategy will be supported by the Public Space Ombudsman, responding to the need to begin to intervene in these depressed areas with multiple problems and convert them into productive public spaces, usable, with cultural, social, entrepreneurial areas, services for the communities.
For these tasks, surveys, dialogues with the communities and evaluations will be carried out.e environments to address the problems that arise.

“Currently, underbridges are synonymous with insecurity, unhealthiness, citizens fear them and what we want is to change that reality. Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán gave us the instruction to intervene in the most critical underbridges in the city so that they become spaces of meeting, productivity, safety and pedestrian mobility for Bogota residents,” said Bastidas.
The first underbridge to intervene, which already has designs and consultation with the neighboring community, is that of Calle 53 with NQS; an urban revitalization project that will transform an underused area of 2,200 meters into a functional space where art, culture and economic reactivation will be promoted.
“On 53rd Street we will build the first underbridge in the city, with a modern architectural design that will have bathroomsspace for pets, a children’s park, a bio-healthy area, a multipurpose room for art, culture and recreation and two commercial premises. It will be operated by the community, the Community Action Board and CorpoGalerias with the other neighbors who partnered to make it possible,” added the official.
According to the District, these tasks will take some time, because coordination with the community is essential for the initiative to be successful.

“Under bridges must fulfill their vocation according to their area of influence, that is, they must be spaces that have what the people of the sector ask for and need, so that they can take advantage of them and not be abandoned. Then there is the stage of contracting work that provides water, electricity and structures, and there, we work hand in hand with the IDU to the structural review,” added the directive.
