MIAMI, United States. — Cuban activist Carlos Ernesto Díaz González, better known as Ktivo Disidente, spoke exclusively for CubaNet about the situation that Cuba is going through and about why Cubans cannot live in a democracy.
In his first interview after being released from prison, Ktivo Dissident assured that there is no freedom in Cuba and that the majority of Cubans do not want to continue under a communist regime.
“Cubans in general know that this is not what they want: we are subjected by force, not by reason,” said Díaz González, who recently obtained parole after spending more than a year in prison.
The activist insisted that the future of Cuba must pass through the decision of the Cubans, and not through someone who decides for them.
“We, the people, are the owners of our destiny. We have no need for anyone to come and decide for us. Cubans have to empower themselves,” said the opponent to this newspaper.
On November 29, 2022, Ktivo Dissidente was sentenced to two years and six months in prison for the crimes of disobedience and contempt. He was confined in the Ariza prison, in Cienfuegos, for having asked for the release of political prisoners by climbing onto the wall of a children’s playground, on Havana’s San Rafael boulevard in April. Despite having known the harshness of prison, his claims continue to be the same.
“We want a viable social contract for everyone, that is respectful of the individual, of the human being and that applies to the greatest number of people. It is what we need to live: to have a prosperous, free and sovereign homeland”, pointed out the former political prisoner.
Díaz González revealed that he suffered abuse and beatings in prison, but made it clear that his morality as a Cuban who is not a communist “remains intact.”
