The Legislative Branch acted, as on few occasions, in tune with citizens’ requests regarding justice and security.
This was demonstrated yesterday, Saturday, with the publication of the Law No. 32242 that provides for the automatic dismissal and permanent disqualification of directors, teachers, assistants and administrative staff of educational institutions – public and private – who are convicted of serious crimes.
In addition, permanently prevents their entry into the Public Teaching Career.
The device refers to convictions for intentional crimes related to crimes against sexual freedom, terrorism, illicit drug trafficking and other serious crimes stipulated in the Penal Code.
The device also reinforces disciplinary measures for teachers who engage in acts of violence or mistreatment of students, sexual harassment, unjustified absence, and other conduct that violates fundamental rights within the educational field.
The dismissal will be ex officio and will not require an administrative process for those accused who have been convicted of the aforementioned crimes.
As is known, Journalistic complaints revealed that many of these educators continue to carry out their work in schools.
Modification
Law No. 32242, modifies article 49 of Law No. 29944, Teacher Reform Law and establishes the indicated scope.
