Monsignor Silvio Báez expressed his joy after the Daniel Ortega regime exhibited in photographs his brother in faith, the bishop of the Diocese of Matagalpa, Rolando Alvarez, imprisoned since February 9 of this year in the Jorge Navarro Penitentiary System, known as “La Modelo” in Tipitapa.
«I was very happy to see the photos of my brother, Monsignor Rolando -Álvarez-. I thank God that he is alive!” Wrote the auxiliary bishop of Managua through his Twitter account.
However, he described as “disgusting and cynical” the scenery set up by the Ortega dictatorship to show the priest, after more than a month of denying him any communication with his relatives.
He also pointed out that despite the fact that the dictator Daniel Ortega allowed Álvarez’s relatives to visit him and share family moments, that “does not erase his crime.”
“The strength of the people’s prayer and international pressure have been revealed. Release him now! , added the exiled prelate in the United States due to threats from the Ortega and Murillo regime.
Last night, Saturday, March 25, the propagandist El 19 Digital published photos of the visit made to him by Vilma and Manuel Antonio Álvarez Lagos, both brothers of the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Estelí.
The Ortega justice found Monsignor Rolando Álvarez guilty of the alleged crimes of “treason against the homeland” and sentenced him to 26 years in prison, stripped him of his nationality and stripped him of his civil and political rights for life, all of this, then that on February 9 he refused to be exiled from Nicaragua along with 222 other political prisoners.
Bishop Álvarez is one of the most critical religious voices against the Ortega and Murillo dictatorship, which caused persecution and siege against him, until he was deprived of his freedom on August 4, 2022.
