• 2010: a journalistic platform, WikiLeaks, founded and directed by Julian Assange, makes public secret documents and videos from the governments of the United States and Great Britain about abuses and massacres committed by their armies in Iraq and Afghanistan. Months later, he declassifies nearly half a million cables from the United States embassies in all countries.
• In 2012, he took refuge in the Ecuadorian embassy in London to avoid being extradited to Sweden (where he was sued for rape).
• In 2019, the Ecuadorian government withdraws the journalist’s asylum and hands him over to the police. The British Home Office accepts an extradition request from the US. He is interned in the Belmarsh prison and a process that is now in its fourth year begins.
• In 2018, a judge rejected extradition for health reasons. US appeals.
• In 2022, the Court accepts all the US arguments. From then on, the defense’s last opportunity to appeal opens.
