The General Directorate of the Directorate of Integrated Health Networks Lima Este (Diris Lima Este) and contributes, the Platform for Innovation and Social Impact of Breca, renewed their cooperation agreement with the objective of identifying and carrying out joint actions in favor of the first Childhood, strengthen impact measurement strategies and promote early childhood development. In this way, they seek to contribute to change the life trajectory of children in the country.
The signing of the agreement was attended by Dr. Carlos León, General Director of the Diris Lima Este, and Ivo Saona, general director of Contribution, who reaffirmed their commitment to continue promoting joint initiatives in favor of Peruvian children.
During the ceremony, Ivo Saona highlighted the importance of this collaboration, noting that “through the assignment in use of the resources of the Project Volar we seek to strengthen the care and raising capabilities of fathers, mothers and other caregivers of children between 0 and 5 years, allowing them to go for more and better opportunities in life. ” In the case of the districts that make up the Diris Lima Este, there are approximately 250 thousand minors in that age range.
He also emphasized that “our country still has important gaps to address, and public-private collaboration is a key factor in strengthening the delivery of services for the benefit of vulnerable populations.” In that sense, he recalled that he contributes has been working for more than 13 years to boost the development of the country from a rigorous management of data and evidence, an approach that will be strengthened with the Diris Lima East to ensure a positive impact on the child population.
Fight against anemia
For his part, Dr. Carlos León, general director of the Diris Lima Este, highlighted the progress made in children’s vaccination during 2024. He said that 14,569 children under one year with the third dose of the vaccine against the vaccine were protected Polio, reaching a coverage of 70.2%, already 14,561 children with the third dose of the pentavalent vaccine, achieving a coverage of 70.1%.
As for the children of one year, the first dose of the SPR vaccine was administered to 17,961 minors, reaching a coverage of 90.3%, while the second dose protected 13,344 children, with a coverage of 67.1%. In addition, the third dose of the pneumococcal vaccine reached 79.2% of the target population, with a total of 15,769 vaccinated children.
Dr. León also highlighted advances in the fight against childhood anemia. During 2024, 29,751 hemoglobin dosages were made to children under three years of age, diagnosing anemia in 5,588 of them, which represents 18.8% of the population
evaluated. This figure represents a significant reduction of more than 8 percentage points compared to 2023, when the anemia rate reached 27.1%.
Finally, Dr. León stressed that the alliance with contributes will contribute to continue to raise awareness among parents and caregivers about the importance of strengthening the basis of good care and aging in early childhood. “This collaboration is key to continue advancing in the promotion of child development, guaranteeing that more children grow in healthy and safe environments,” he concluded.
