Directors of the Mayor's Office of Baruta cited for alleged illegal felling of trees

Users of social networks responded by demanding that this measure be taken in other municipalities, including those of the Chavista administration, as is the case of the Libertador municipality, where the practice of illegal logging is common and seems to receive the approval of Mayor Carmen Meléndez.

The felling of trees in the Metropolitan Area of Caracas has sparked controversy due to the complaints of its residents, who denounce that the city is deprived of its green spaces and its main lung.

At the center of these criticisms is the private garbage collection company, Fospuca, accused of indiscriminately felling trees in the Baruta municipality.

In November 2021, SuchWhich warned that the population was already concerned about severe pruning and the constant felling of trees. Since then, in recent months, activists reported that their complaints were completely ignored.

After almost half a year of complaints, the prosecutor imposed by the illegitimate and dissolved constituent assembly, Tarek William Saab, reported that the Public Ministry (MP) opened an investigation against Fospuca to determine if he committed crimes related to the felling of trees in Chacao.

The National Prosecutor’s Office 86 would be in charge of investigating the company under the argument that it would be “violating the human right to the environment.”

Days later, it is the directors of the Baruta mayor’s office who go to the dock. They were summoned by the prosecution to give statements about the investigation related to the illegal felling of trees.

The director of the Mayor’s Office of the Municipality of Baruta, Claudio Ripa; and the director of Green Areas of the Mayor’s Office, Ronny Valecillos. They must appear this Thursday, April 28.

This information was disseminated by Saab through its Twitter account. In the publication he insisted that the alleged illegal felling of trees harms the human right to the environment in this municipality.

Users of social networks responded by demanding that this measure be taken in other municipalities, including those under Chavista administration, as is the case of the Libertador municipality, where the practice is common and seems to receive the approval of Mayor Carmen Meléndez.
