SANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC) activated his emergency plan to provide a more timely response in favor of people deprived of liberty in case the rains will cause flooding around some of the penitentiary facilities.
The DGSPC protocols seek to protect the lives of those deprived of liberty and the institution’s servants.
Also, to safeguard the infrastructure of the penitentiary system throughout the country. For this purpose, the owner of the DGSPC, Roberto Santana, maintains permanent coordination with the various administrative and security areas.

“We all know that, for decades, prison system employees have had to reinforce their levels of care for facilities such as the one in La Victoria, Najayo 17 and Rafey in times of atmospheric phenomena that cause heavy rainfall over the national territory,” said Santana.

In his latest newsletter, the National Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) calls on the population to pay attention to the recommendations of state agencies regarding rains, and possible floods, associated with an active tropical wave caused by a low pressure center located in waters of the Caribbean Sea, several hundred kilometers south of the Dominican Republic.
The phenomenon has a high probability of becoming tropical cyclone for the next 24 to 48 hours, according to Indomet.
“Cloud fields associated with this system are forecast to generate strong downpours with thunderstorms and gusts of wind over the course of the week over the country. This system currently has a probability of cyclonic development discharge in the next 7 days (90%),” indicates Indomet.
